Nottingham Forest was founded in 1865 by a group of amateur players in Nottingham, England. The club joined The Football League in 1892, and has since competed in a variety of competitions. The Forest team that won the 1979 European Cup was nicknamed "The Miracle of Madrid" after they beat Hamburg in the final, which was held in Spain. Nottingham Forest was one of the most successful clubs in England during the 1970s and 1980s, winning the league title in 1978 and 1979, the European Cup in 1979, and two League Cups. The club has won the English FA Cup once, in 1898.
