Founded in 1899 as Riverside A.F.C., the club changed its name to Cardiff City in 1908 and entered the Southern League in 1910. The club won the Southern League title in 1912–13 and joined the English Football League in 1920. Cardiff won the 1927 FA Cup Final, which was their first and only major trophy. They reached the final again in 1925, but lost 1–0 to Sheffield United. They went on to finish fifth in the First Division in 1925–26, which is their highest ever finish. Cardiff reached the semi-finals of the League Cup in 2012–13, losing to Crystal Palace.
