Bolton Wanderers Football Club in the EFL League One, the 3rd tier of English football was formed as Christ Church Football Club in 1874 by the Reverend Joseph Farrall Wright and Thomas Ogden, it took its current name in the year 1877 and was one of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888.
Bolton has won the FA Cup four times, three in the 1920s, and again in 1958. They have qualified for the UEFA Cup twice, reaching the last 32 in 2005–06 and the last 16 in 2007–08. The clubs home was Burnden Park for a huge 102 years from 1895, In 1997, they moved to the Reebok Stadium. The stadium was renamed the Macron Stadium in 2014 and University of Bolton Stadium in 2018. In 2015, Bolton Wanderers started having financial difficulties and went into administration in May 2019. Facing possible EFL expulsion and probable extinction, the club was acquired by new owners, Football Ventures (Whites) Limited, on 28 August 2019.
