Milton Keynes Dons Football Club is an English professional football club based in the city of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The club was founded in 2004, following Wimbledon F.C.'s controversial relocation to Milton Keynes. The club competes in League One, the third tier of the English football league system.
Milton Keynes Dons have reached the second tier of English football once, in the 2006–07 season. The club has competed in all three tiers of the English football league system. The club played its first ever competitive match in August 2004, against Kidderminster Harriers in the first round of the League Cup. The club's first home game was against Barnet in September 2004. The club's first ever league game was against Chester City in League Two on 3 October 2004, which they won 2–0.
Milton Keynes Dons were formed on 21 September 2004, following the decision of the Football Association to allow the relocation of Wimbledon F.C. to Milton Keynes. The club's name is a portmanteau of the original name of the town, Milton Keynes, and that of the former club, Wimbledon. The club's badge refers to the two previous clubs as well, with the wyvern from Wimbledon's crest and the motto "Haec olim meminisse iuvabit" from MK Dons' crest both being included.
Milton Keynes Dons play their home games at Stadium MK, which opened in 2007. The stadium has a capacity of 30,500 and is the largest stadium in League One. The stadium is also home to the Milton Keynes Dons Sport and Education Trust, a charitable organisation that delivers sporting and educational programmes to the local community.
